Product Description
Glutathione (GSH) is a low-molecular-weight thiol tripeptide composed of three amino acids - L-glutamate, L-cysteine, and glycine - joined through an unusual gamma-glutamyl peptide bond that gives the molecule the systematic name L-gamma-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine. It is the most abundant endogenous non-protein thiol found across plant and animal tissues, where the free sulfhydryl group of its cysteine residue is the chemically reactive center. This research-grade material is supplied in the reduced (GSH) form as a lyophilized powder intended exclusively for in-vitro and preclinical laboratory investigation.
In preclinical and in-vitro research, glutathione has been studied extensively as a redox buffer and as a primary cellular antioxidant, where it has been investigated for its role in scavenging reactive oxygen species and maintaining the thiol-disulfide balance through cycling between its reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) states. It serves as a model substrate in studies of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione transferase enzyme systems, and has been examined in laboratory models for its role in xenobiotic and electrophile detoxification, conjugation chemistry, and the protection of protein sulfhydryl groups.
Additional research literature has explored glutathione's participation in amino acid transport via the gamma-glutamyl cycle and its function as an electron donor in the reduction of hydroperoxides. These observations are drawn from cell-culture and animal-model systems and are reported here strictly as research findings, not as characterizations of effects in humans.
Specifications: CAS 70-18-8 · Molecular formula C10H17N3O6S · Molecular weight 307.32 g/mol · Sequence/length tripeptide, 3 amino acids (L-gamma-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) · Purity >=99% (HPLC) · Form lyophilized powder · Available sizes Default
Storage & handling: store the lyophilized powder at -20C and protect it from light and moisture. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic (BAC) water; because the free thiol is prone to oxidation, keep the reconstituted solution refrigerated, protect it from light and air, and use it within a few weeks.
For research use only. Not for human consumption. This product is not a drug, food, or dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
