Gonadorelin is a synthetic decapeptide identical in structure to endogenous gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH, also known as LHRH), a signaling peptide produced in the hypothalamus. Composed of ten amino acid residues in the sequence Pyr-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2, it belongs to the GnRH/releasing-hormone peptide class and is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis. As the parent molecule of the GnRH family, it serves as a reference compound in studies of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis.
