Product Description
LL-37 is the only known human member of the cathelicidin family of antimicrobial peptides. It is a 37-amino-acid, cationic, amphipathic peptide derived from the C-terminal portion of the 18 kDa human cationic antimicrobial protein precursor (hCAP18), released through proteinase 3-mediated cleavage. Named for its two N-terminal leucine residues and its length, LL-37 adopts an alpha-helical conformation in physiological and membrane-mimetic environments, a structural feature widely studied in relation to its interaction with lipid bilayers.
In preclinical and in-vitro research, LL-37 has been investigated extensively for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial behavior against bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses, with proposed mechanisms involving disruption of microbial membranes. Within the context of tissue-repair research, laboratory and animal-model studies have examined its observed associations with keratinocyte and endothelial cell migration, angiogenesis, and modulation of inflammatory signaling during experimental wound-healing models. Additional preclinical work has explored its role as an immunomodulatory and chemotactic molecule. All such findings derive from controlled laboratory, in-vitro, and animal studies and have not been established for human use.
