Product Description
MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP), a class of short bioactive peptides encoded within an open reading frame of the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA gene rather than the nuclear genome. First characterized in 2015, it is a 16-amino-acid peptide with the sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR. As one of the best-studied members of the mitochondrial-derived peptide family, MOTS-c is widely used as a reference compound in research exploring communication between the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes and the regulation of cellular energy metabolism.
In preclinical and in-vitro studies, MOTS-c has been investigated for its role in metabolic homeostasis and cellular energy sensing. Research in cultured cells and rodent models has reported that it modulates the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, with associated effects on the folate cycle, de novo purine biosynthesis, and glucose handling. In animal studies it has been examined in the context of diet-induced and age-associated insulin resistance, adiposity, and skeletal-muscle glucose uptake, and under cellular stress it has been observed to translocate to the nucleus where it is reported to influence stress-responsive gene expression.
Because several reported animal findings parallel adaptations associated with physical activity, MOTS-c is frequently described in the literature as a candidate "exercise mimetic." These observations derive entirely from laboratory and animal models and are presented here solely to characterize active areas of preclinical investigation, not as established effects in humans.
Specifications: CAS 1627580-64-6 · Molecular formula C101H152N28O22S2 · Molecular weight 2174.6 g/mol · Sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR (16 amino acids) · Purity >=99% (HPLC) · Form lyophilized powder · Available sizes 10mg, 40mg
